The Cornell Organization for Labor Action is a student-labor solidarity action group that focuses on supporting the efforts of workers on campus and around the world to organize and fight for better working conditions. COLA states that “as students, we use our strategic leverage over our universities to compel employers, companies, and our own university to uphold the rights of workers.” They have been involved with campaigns to unionize and secure contracts for workers in several different organizations, and were instrumental in moving Cornell toward the adoption of a socially responsible purchasing policy. COLA ran a successful campaign to end Cornell’s licensing contract with Nike following reports of egregious labor abuses.
