- Climate Action Plan Overview
Cornell President David Skorton committed the University to develop a campus plan for Climate Neutrality by September 2009, as part of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACU PCC). Climate neutrality will involve aggressively reducing Cornell’s greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting what is left, with the long term goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions. See Our Strategy.
Reaching climate neutrality will involve significant challenges. The effort will touch every corner of the campus and everyone has the opportunity to be involved. Anyone from students to local farmers, research faculty to building crews, can visit our online Idea Exchange to learn about what others are thinking and submit their own ideas for consideration. As the New York State land grant college, and a highly respected research institution, Cornell's actions will have an impact well beyond our campus borders. To encourage Cornell’s effort, the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency (NYSERDA) provided a $425,000 matching grant to Cornell. The support ensures that Cornell’s Climate Action Plan will be a model for campuses and communities across New York State. For more details see Cornell’s Commitment.
