We have been working with suppliers to find ways to support Cornell’s Sustainable Campus initiative, and we are pleased to report a few new programs from three suppliers: W.B. Mason, The Computing Center, and Fitzgerald Brothers Bus & Limo Company. These programs promote purchasing green products, recycling, and reducing fuel emissions.

Buying Sustainable Office Supplies and Copy Paper. The “Green-‘N’-Save” program from W.B. Mason makes it easier to identify and select green products from their e-SHOP punch-out site in two ways: by using icons to highlight recycled copy paper and other green items and by notifying buyers of sustainable alternatives to items they’re purchasing. W. B. Mason also offers a “Swap-‘N’-Save” program, which identifies lower cost options such as alternate brands, different package counts, or a close substitutes of the same quality. Selecting these lower priced options could result in saving an estimated 20% on purchased items. As university shopping trends are identified, W.B. Mason will continue to add products to these programs. Visit W.B. Mason in e-SHOP for your office supply and recycled copy paper needs.

Recycling Printer and Facsimile Ink and Toner. The Computing Center’s toner recycling program helps recycle the toner we purchase and provides free pick-up of any used toner, ink, or other consumable cartridges. All you have to do is drop off your used items at the department delivery site, and the next time The Computing Center brings an order, they will pick up all used items for recycling. To help you remember to recycle, an instruction label will be placed on each toner cartridge carton ordered through The Computing Center.

There are two other convenient ways for you to recycle toner cartridges:

  1. Drop off unpackaged, used toner cartridges in the battery/CD/toner recycling bins found in mailrooms and campus mail pickup locations, and R5 Operations will pick them up for recycling.
  2. Return HP and Dell toner to the manufacturer in the packaging provided.

Please recycle your used toner cartridges and help us green our campus!

Reducing Fuel Emissions in Bus and Transportation Services. To reduce their overall carbon footprint, Fitzgerald Brothers has converted its entire diesel fleet to run on Biofuel, which releases 75% less emissions. Fitzgerald Brothers Bus & Limousine Co., a local family owned and operated company that offers service to any U.S. destination, on March 1 was awarded a university contract for bus and transportation services. Their fleet includes corporate sedans, SUVs, limousines, and touring coaches, which accommodate a variety of travel needs. They offer discounted pricing to Cornell business users and competitive rates. Fitzgerald Brothers is a member of the Transportation Safety Exchange, United Motorcoach Association, and the National Limousine Association, and is certified by New York State to operate its transportation service. In addition, all of their drivers have obtained New York State DMV certification and are subject to background checks and drug testing. We are excited about this new partnership and hope that you will consider Fitzgerald Brothers for your future travel needs.
