GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

Job Description: 
The Graphic Design Intern will work with the campaign coordinator on four main projects:

  1. CSA Farm Directory - Design visual elements of a print and online directory for CSA farms; work with web developer to set up online site and build up site content; work with CSA farms to market site
  2. Energy Brochure – Design print brochure to educate and promote energy efficiency in homes, solar power, and heating with wood and wood pellets. Work with related local businesses to make sure the brochure is useful for their marketing
  3. GYGB Website & Marketing – With campaign coordinator, redesign getyourgreenback.org to improve elegance and usefulness of site, and its ability to showcase local businesses and resources.
  4. Reuse Directory – Work with 40+ local reuse stores to update print and online directories. Design and implement strategies to increase online directory visibility, including linking to member site, SEO, and social media.

The intern may also work on other projects based on his or her interests and campaign needs, including but certainly not limited to, interviewing and writing profiles of community members who have adopted the key sustainable behaviors, as well as producing a monthly e-newsletter.

Required responsibilities:

  • Design visuals for use in print and online media based on multiple stakeholder input
  • Thoughtfully lead graphic design process from initial visioning through multiple drafts to final product
  • Communicate with relevant partner local businesses and organizations about design, production and distribution
  • Create design guidelines and style guides for projects
  • Intern will also define specific projects and goals with GYGB staff based on interest and skills

Previous work experience/skills/special requirements:

  • Design or art majors preferred, or significant graphic design experience
  • Marketing and advertising (including online, social media)
  • Oral and written communication
  • Must be highly motivated, organized, reliable
  • Able to work independently, report progress, as well as ask for help when needed
  • Interest in sustainability and social change
  • Must be federal work study eligible or willing to accept an unpaid internship.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING INTERN

Job Description: The Communications & Marketing Intern(s) will work with the campaign coordinator on a number of projects:

  1. CSA Farm Directory – Continue to develop a print and online directory for CSA farms; work with web developer to set up online site and build up site content; work with CSA farms to market site
  2. GYGB Website & Marketing – With campaign coordinator, design and implement strategies to promote getyourgreenback.org. Potential strategies include linking to campaign member websites, social media, SEO, etc.
  3. Reuse Directory – Work with 40+ local reuse stores to update print and online directories. Design and implement strategies to increase online directory visibility, including linking to member site, SEO, and social media.
  4. Storytelling/photojournalism – compile compelling stories of community members and businesses that are taking steps towards saving energy and money

The intern may also work on other projects based on his or her interests and campaign needs, including but certainly not limited to, interviewing and writing profiles of community members who have adopted the key sustainable behaviors, as well as producing a monthly e-newsletter.

  • Write compelling stories of individuals and organizations that are engaging in key behaviors: set up and conduct interviews, take photos; edit article and design; and share profiles through a variety of media.

  • Intern will also define specific projects and goals with GYGB staff based on interest and skills

The campaign is part of a larger movement building an ecologically sound and economically just community.
